Elon Musk is fueling fight talk after UFC boss Dana White touted a potential bout with Mark Zuckerberg

It looks like Elon Musk is in on the fight against Mark Zuckerberg.

The polarizing billionaire posted some “fiery” emojis on his Twitter page in response to a video of UFC founder Dana White calling his proposed cage match “the biggest fight ever in world history.”

“I was talking to both Elon and Mark last night,” White said in a video that has since circulated on social media on Friday. Both men are very serious about this. They both want to do that.

Mark Zuckerberg hit me first and said, “Is he serious?”

I said: I don’t know, let me ask him, so I asked him and he said: Yes, I’m dead serious.

In a back-and-forth game now circulating on Twitter and Instagram this week, the tech billionaires seem to have agreed to a “cage match.”

White then defended his exaggeration, saying, “It would break all pay-per-view records,” White said. These guys are going to raise, you know, hundreds of millions of dollars for charity, and you know, you don’t have to be a huge fan of the fight to be interested in this fight. Everyone wants to see it.

It all started when Musk, the owner of Twitter, responded to a tweet about a meta that was reportedly preparing to launch a new Twitter competitor called Threads. He searched for the world to be “exclusively under Zuck’s thumb with no other options” — but then a Twitter user warned Musk about Zuckerberg’s jiu-jitsu training.

“I’m ready for a cage match if lol,” Musk wrote late Tuesday.

Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta Platforms for Facebook and Instagram’s parent company, responded quickly — and seemed to go along with Musk’s suggestion.

“Send me a site,” Zuckerberg wrote in Wednesday night’s Instagram story, which showed a screenshot of Musk’s tweet along with another user’s response urging the Twitter owner to “start training.”

Zuckerberg is actually trained in mixed martial arts. The Facebook founder posted about completing his first jiu-jitsu course last month.

In response to Zuckerberg’s site’s request on Wednesday, Musk suggested the Vegas Octagon. He then joked about his fighting skills and workout routine, suggesting that fighting might not be serious.

“I have this great move I call the ‘walrus,’” Mask wrote, “where I lie on top of my opponent and do nothing.

Whether or not Musk and Zuckerberg actually hit the ring remains to be seen — especially since Musk often tweets about acting prematurely or without following through. But, even if their cage match agreement was just a joke, the banter attracted attention. An endless series of “pick your fighter” memes and posts have sprung up in response.

“The story speaks for itself,” a Meta spokesperson said in a statement to the Associated Press. Zuckerberg did not comment further.

Despite the uncertainty that a cage match would actually take place, bids had already taken place for the expected winner. The draft odds for DraftKings were +140 for Musk and -160 for Zuckerberg on Thursday.

The Associated Press also reached out to Ultimate Fighting Championship, which owns Octagon, and Twitter for data. The press email responded on Twitter with a poo emoji, her standard automated response to reporters.
