Manchester United ‘makes Rasmus Hooglund of Atalanta the first target in the search for a striker’

Manchester United ‘Rasmus Hooglund made Atalanta his first target as Erik ten Hag seeks to sign a striker after England midfielder Mason Mount landed’

Manchester United are reportedly planning a £50m raid for Danish star Rasmus Höglund as they seek a striker this summer.

Reds chairman Erik ten Hag will push to secure a second major deal despite growing uncertainty over a proposed takeover.

The club is operating on a strict budget due to financial fair play considerations, but it is believed they could offer Hojlund this summer for around £50m, according to the Telegraph.

The 20-year-old enjoyed a stellar season at Serie A’s Atalanta last season, scoring nine league goals in 32 appearances.

United finally agreed a £60m deal for Mason Mount from Chelsea this week and are now looking to cover two more key targets this summer.

Talks continue over their main targets Rasmus Höglund from Atalanta and Randall Kolo Mwane from Eintracht Frankfurt, with Ten Hag keen to appoint a new striker for pre-season training.

United also want to sign a goalkeeper with Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana with Feyenoord’s Justin Bellew and Frankfurt’s Kevin Trapp in the mix.

The acquisition would give United the chance to sign a striker and then return to Onana later in the window while they also hope to raise money from sales like Fred is on Fulham’s option list.

Ethan Laird has joined Birmingham City for £750,000 while a decision on Mason Greenwood is to be made soon, although a move to Roma is considered unlikely.

Hoglund is impressing United after a solid breakthrough season at Serie A Atalanta where his seasonal exploits have earned him a reputation as one of Europe’s brightest attacking prospects.

The talented Danish scored nine goals in the league in 32 matches, as Atalanta finished fifth in the Italian first division and qualified for the European League competition next season.

Hoglund, just 20, is a player for the future and would give United a promising solution to their goal-scoring woes, although Mwane is another suitable replacement.

The Frankfurt striker has enjoyed a solid season for the Bundesliga club, scoring 23 goals and recording 17 assists in all competitions.

A strong period at the end of last year saw him score six goals in six matches in the Bundesliga, while also impressing in the Champions League.
