OnePlus 12 specs leak promises a gigantic 5,400mAh battery

Zoom in / OnePlus 12 OnLeak render.

The past week has seen some leaks about the upcoming OnePlus flagship phone, the OnePlus 12, thanks to OnLeaks and Smartprix. If OnePlus sticks to the previous schedule, this phone will launch in China this year and early next year in the US, and will be one of the first phones to feature much of the new 2024 technology.

We have specifications and images waiting for you, and the big news is the promise of a massive 5400mAh battery with the usual body size of 6.7 inches. Devices of this size are usually shipped with 5,000mAh batteries. Since the phone doesn’t look noticeably thicker and manufacturers have a phobia of thicker phones, we’ll assume that this is due to a significant increase in battery density year-on-year.

This device is timed to coincide with the release of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, so this will be one of the first products with Qualcomm’s 2024 chip. Not much is known about it, though. The company will pick from Arm’s next-generation parts box, but with a report From Kamila Wojciechowska stating that the chip has a basic “2+3+2+1” configuration, it doesn’t look like Qualcomm will follow Arm’s design recommendations. The chip is also rumored to drop 32-bit support after Qualcomm delayed the 64-bit transition last year.

“The device will offer an impressive 16GB LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB storage based on the fast UFS 4.0 standard,” says the Smartprix report. If this is the base model, that’s another nice increase on the spec sheet over what phones usually ship with. If this is the mid-range model and there is still a base 8GB / 128GB model, that’s pretty normal. The report says the phone also has 100W wired charging and 50W wireless charging, all of which sound pretty fast.

Finally, we have the device’s usual ultra-high resolution renders from OnLeaks, which stay pretty close to the OnePlus 11’s design. There’s still a big circle on the back of the camera bump, but this year there’s a big rectangle in there. That’s supposed to make a lot of a “periscope” 3x optical zoom camera, but phones have had these for years.

It seems that all we need from this phone now is the release date and price. Before that, though, OnePlus has a foldable device out the door, which should launch at the end of August.
